Crystalia timidly walked into the enormous library of the town she arrived in a couple of days ago. She did not act like herself for the duration of her stay, but Crys had a reason to be honest. It wasn't everyday that you got snatched by something similar to a portal and ending up in a strange place full of strangers. Her strong will wavered, which made her unsure. Around fellow mutants, Crystalia, or Firebelle as she was also known as, always acted cocky and sarcastic and some of her friends, like Wolverine and Gambit appreciated it. Something about finding a girl who could hold her own against them they said.
With a sigh, the female mutant carefully moved around the shelves, looking at the great choice of books that this town had. Crystalia didn't apply for a membership yet, because she really couldn't explain her presence there. It wasn't as if she could say 'Hey, I got transported here by a strange force and I can burn down your house with a flick of my hand.'. Crys doubted that the humans here would welcome her. Taking a Spanish book of fairy tales from the shelf, she walked to a dark corner and started reading it. Crystalia wasn't really focusing on it, but was thinking about the Institute and her friends there.
She didn't notice any mutant in this place, Ashfield as it was called. Crystalia had no idea how she would be accepted. Will she be hated? Loved? Would people be indifferent? Most humans in New York feared the mutants, seeing them as the spawns of devil. Not that the rest of USA was anything different. Homo sapiens' attitude toward superiors was one of the main reasons Firebelle hesitated to join the X-Men. She went on one mission with them, against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The good mutants were victorious, but the humans were anything but grateful. Crystalia did not expect a thanks from them, she wasn't that naive, but she also didn't expect that a bottle of beer would hit her head a few seconds later after she saved a six year old child. Last thing she remembered was that scared look in the kid's eyes and pure, unadulterated hate in the eyes of the boy's mother.
Air picked up around her as Crystalia's powers responded to her emotions. It shook Crys out of her reveries and she breathed deeply a few times, trying to calm down. However, it didn't work as she was too upset and the fairytale book caught fire in her hands. 'Damn,' she murmured and produced a jet of water from her hand to take out the small fire. Crystalia quickly looked around to see if anyone noticed that little display and opened the window, so the stench of smoke disappeared. 'Just my luck.'
