[ PERSONALITY ] :
Generally, Dean can come off in one of two ways, depending on his mood and who he’s talking to. He can seem charming and funny or abrasive and cold. He often masks his true emotions, using light or crude humor to stave off fear or uncertainty. Only a select few people who are allowed to really get to know Dean get to see who he really is.
Dean tries not to make emotional attachments to people. For one thing it’s difficult to have any close romantic ties or friendships when you lead a secret life where you hunt monsters. For another he doesn’t want to bring danger from his hunting life into the lives of innocent people. He prefers to keep his relationships casual or professional. However, he’s not exactly happy being without attachments. It does make life a bit simpler and give him less people to worry about, but it also makes him a very lonely person.
He makes it a point to enjoy the little things in life: a cold beer, a good burger, a night with a beautiful woman. He likes to indulge in these things to take his mind off everything he’s worried about for a few minutes. Dean is definitely a champion of humanity. He believes in the perseverance of people and he’ll go to bat for humans every time with no hesitation. Dean tends to be very closed-minded, often believing his opinion to be the only one and he dislikes change. He likes to keep things simple and follow a routine. Family is the most important thing in the world to Dean and he places anyone in his family on a pedestal, which makes it devastating for him when they disappoint him in some way. But Dean is ultimately forgiving when it comes to family and at the end of the day he’ll always have his family’s back.

[ BIOGRAPHY ] :
Dean Winchester was born to John and Mary Winchester on January 24, 1979. He grew up in Lawrence, Kansas for the early part of his childhood and for a few years he had a normal, happy life. On May 2, 1983, John and Mary welcomed a second son, Sam, into the family. Dean was a bit torn about this new addition. He’d been an only child for four years and he was vaguely worried that a new baby would mean less attention for him. But when Sam arrived, Dean was excited to be a big brother.
On November 2, 1983, tragedy struck the Winchester family and their lives were forever altered. Mary was killed in a mysterious fire in Sam’s room. John handed six-month-old Sam to Dean and the two boys escaped the house safely. John wasn’t far behind, but he was devastated by the death of his wife. He was also convinced that her death had been caused by something supernatural, and he devoted his life to hunting down the thing responsible. He began traveling the country in search of the supernatural, hunting down and killing what he could and learning about new things along the way. He took his sons along for the ride and raised Dean in the lifestyle of a supernatural hunter. From a young age Dean looked up to his father and wanted to be just like him. For a number of years, Sam didn’t know the truth about their lifestyle. He and Dean bounced from one city to another, never settling down long enough to make any real friends. Dean became very close with Sam and made it his duty to protect him. When Sam was eight years old, Dean was the one to tell him what their father really did, introducing Sam to the hunting life.
Dean never really fit in when he was in high school. For the short time he attended any school some people would see him as cool because he had a devil-may-care attitude. But, he was often labeled an outcast and his teachers always thought of him as a problem child. Not that he really made an effort to prove anybody wrong. He didn’t like spending his time cooped up in some classroom while somebody droned on and on about things he’d probably never need anyway. What good was Shakespeare while you were sawing the head off a vampire? He was often disruptive in class and given detention, if he even bothered to go to class. He didn’t really care about making friends or making any kind of mark on his high school record. When he was sixteen and really got a chance to help his dad on a hunt, Dean realized that hunting was the life for him. It was where he belonged and he was good at it. So he embraced the hunting life and decided to learn everything he could from his father. In stark contrast, Sam was often at odds with John, wanting to settle down for a while and make some friends, to have a normal life. Dean was often the mediator trying to keep Sam and John from fighting all the time.
A year or so after graduating high school, Dean went on a week-long road trip on his own while Sam and John were hunting a banshee. He met a yoga instructor named Lisa Braeden and spent most of the week with her. Although Dean considered this a fun fling, it would come back to haunt him later.
After Sam graduated from high school, the strained relationship between Sam and John came to a boiling point. Sam wanted to go to college while John didn’t want Sam to abandon his family and his duty as a hunter. Dean tried his best to mediate, but Sam ultimately parted ways with him and John to go to Stanford University. Dean was hurt by Sam’s departure and never fully forgave him for abandoning the family. His relationship with Sam was practically non-existent for four years. Dean continued traveling with John, sometimes going out on his own to hunt, while Sam made friends and got into a serious relationship with Jessica Moore. In the meantime, Dean met a girl named Cassie Robinson. She was the first woman he dated seriously and he fell in love with her after a few weeks of dating. However, when he told her he hunted the supernatural she thought he was insane and broke up with him. This heartbreak deeply hurt Dean and he decided never to allow a woman to get that close to him again.
When John disappeared after going on a hunt, Dean visited Sam in Palo Alto, California to ask for his help tracking their father down. Sam was reluctant to enter the hunting lifestyle again, but when Dean expressed his level of concern for John Sam agreed to go along with him for the weekend. But it was supposed to be temporary so he could make it home in time to interview at a law school he was hoping to attend. Sam and Dean went on a hunt together, but were unable to locate John. Sam returned to his home to find his girlfriend, Jessica, burning on the ceiling above his bed. Her death was eerily reminiscent of their mother’s. Dean was able to get Sam out of the house safely, but Jessica was killed. This was devastating to Sam and it prompted him to go on the road with Dean to hunt down the thing that killed Jessica and Mary.
Sam and Dean traveled and hunted together for a while and began to form a bond after being estranged for so many years. Sam picked up on hunting quickly and turned out to be a skilled researcher. Sam also had a way with people, of talking to someone and saying just the right thing to get them to tell him what he needed to know. Because of their opposing skill sets, Sam and Dean made a good team. Throughout their time together, Sam began to exhibit mysterious psychic abilities such as premonitions and telekinesis.
After pursuing various cases and encountering a demon named Meg, Sam and Dean were reunited with their father, who found a Colt revolver that was rumored to be able to kill anything. They planned to find the Yellow-Eyed demon responsible for the deaths of Mary and Jessica and use the Colt to kill him. However, when the demon possessed John and the responsibility fell to Sam to shoot him to kill the demon, Sam was unable to kill his father and their plan failed. John was furious and while they were arguing and driving to their next destination they were in a serious car accident. Sam suffered minor injuries and John was hospitalized while Dean was left in critical condition. While Sam searched for a way to save Dean, John summoned the Yellow-Eyed demon, who they’d learn was named Azazel. John made a deal, trading the Colt and his own soul for Dean’s life. Dean awoke and John remained alive long enough to give him a message: that the demon had plans for Sam and if Dean couldn’t save him, he’d have to kill him. John died soon after and it didn’t take long for Dean to figure out he’d made a deal. The fact that John died to save Dean would haunt Dean for the rest of his life.
As Sam and Dean continued hunting, Sam’s powers grew and Dean struggled with the message John had left him with. They encountered another young man named Max exhibiting similar abilities, but Max was using them to kill people. This made Sam a bit weary of his own powers. They also met Ellen Harvelle and her daughter Jo, old contacts of their father’s. The Harvelles and their friend Ash became allies for Sam and Dean and often helped them with cases. Dean and Jo became closer when she tagged along with them on a hunt. However, when Jo learned that John Winchester had been partially responsible for the death of her father, she parted ways with Sam and Dean. She parted ways with her mother as well when she said she wanted to start hunting and her mother refused to let her do it under her roof.
Dean became the target of a federal investigation when his name came up in connection with a few murders committed by a shapeshifter in his image. While dodging the F.B.I., Sam and Dean continued to hunt the supernatural. They encountered a supernatural virus called Croatoan that caused violent behavior in people. Sam discovered he was immune to the virus after being infected and failing to exhibit symptoms. Dean was finally forced to tell Sam what John had said before he died: that he’d have to either save Sam or kill him. They continued to encounter more “special children” over the next several months and realized they were all the same age as Sam and many of their parents had also died in nursery fires.
Sam was later possessed by the demon Meg. While possessed, he found and attacked Jo Harvelle, prompting Dean to enlist the help of another hunter, Bobby Singer. Dean was able to track down and capture Sam before he did Jo any serious harm. However, when Jo tried to talk to him to find out what was going on Dean was quick to shut her down and leave, which was upsetting to Jo. With Bobby’s help, Dean was able to exorcise the demon from Sam.
When Dean’s fugitive status caught up with him, Sam and Dean went to prison and were able to escape. They planned to continue pursuing Azazel. However, when Sam disappeared, leaving behind only a trace of sulfur, Dean and Bobby began trying to track him down. After the destruction of Harvelle’s Roadhouse and the death of Ash, Ellen joined Dean and Bobby. They tracked down Sam, who had been placed in some kind of supernatural death match with the other “special children.” They arrived just in time to see a man named Jake Talley stab Sam. After Sam died, Dean summoned a Crossroads Demon and made a deal: his soul for Sam’s life. Sam was resurrected and he killed Jake, but not before Jake opened a devil’s gate to hell, releasing a number of demons.
After Dean revealed to Sam that he only had a year to live before he was dragged to Hell, Sam began to search for a way to save him. They encountered a number of demons, including Ruby, who claimed to know a way to save Dean from the pit. Although Dean was unwilling to put his trust in a demon, Sam was more open to the idea and often accepted her help, much to Dean’s dismay. They also had several run-ins with a supernatural dealer of sorts named Bela Talbot. Through their quest to find a loophole in Dean’s deal, they discovered his contract was held by a powerful demon named Lilith. They focused all their energy on hunting down and killing Lilith, hoping killing her would void the contract. Ruby reluctantly agreed to help them, aiding Bobby in repairing the broken Colt revolver. As Dean’s time drew near he was able to see the true faces of demons. As Ruby led Sam and Dean into Lilith’s lair – a home in the suburbs – Dean quickly realized Ruby’s host was in fact possessed by Lilith. Unfortunately, he realized too little too late and Lilith had him torn apart by rabid hell hounds. Dean died and was sent to Hell, leaving Sam devastated.
Four months later, Dean awoke in a coffin and crawled out of his own grave. Having no idea how he’d gotten back to Earth, Dean was left with only one clue: a handprint burned into his shoulder. He tracked down Bobby, who then took him to Sam. After a heartfelt reunion, the group began searching for what could have brought Dean back. Dean became angry at Sam for continuing to try to find a way to save Dean after he was already dead when Dean had specifically told him not to. Sam, Dean and Bobby enlisted the help of psychic Pamela Barnes, who performed a séance to contact the being that resurrected Dean. When she made contact with the being, she revealed his name was Castiel… right before her eyes were burned out if their sockets.
Sam, Dean and Bobby were surprised to learn that Castiel was an angel and he’d pulled Dean from Hell because Heaven had work for him. Dean, who had never believed in angels before, was skeptical while Sam was more open to the idea. As they continued to investigate, the group discovered that there were omens happening that signaled the coming of the apocalypse. Dean also learned that Sam reconnected with the demon Ruby while Dean was in Hell. He was furious to discover that Ruby had been training Sam to strengthen his psychic abilities and he still didn’t trust Ruby had Sam’s best interest at heart. However, Sam insisted he was in full control of his abilities and that they were their best shot at killing Lilith and, hopefully, stopping the apocalypse.
Sam and Dean encountered a woman named Anna Milton, who was committed to an institution after exhibiting delusional behavior. They quickly discovered that Anna was hearing conversations between angels in Heaven. While protecting Anna, they learned that she was a fallen angel and began to help her locate her grace. However, they were confronted by Castiel and Uriel as well as a group of demons, all wanting Anna for their own purposes. Anna stole her grace back and the angels and demons clashed. All of them disappeared, leaving Sam, Dean, Bobby and Ruby stunned and confused.
